Nature Feature

A Turkey Vulture, "Cathartes aura" feasts on the carcass of an Eastern Opossum, "Deidelphis virginiana" on Old Liberty Road in Randolph County on Wednesday morning. The Turkey Vulture is one of North America's largest birds with a wing span reaching up to six feet across, vultures are scavangers that survive on the flesh of dead animals. Unlike other birds of prey, vultures survive only on previously killed animals and do not hunt their own food.
